Two Weeks With Two in the Tropics by Sonya (twinriffic)

Day 1.

Waking at 2am seemed like a good idea at the time....but sheesh it is an early time of the day to start the long trek from Brisbane to Airlie Beach (about 14hr drive)! 3hrs in and MJ is already asking if she can go home.....this is going to be an extreeeeemly long trip!

Thankfully for dvd's, counting trucks and cows & horses the trip goes exceptionally well. Girls have a power nap, hardly any whinging and we arrive at 5pm to accomodation arranged by some lovely friends to find out we have been given a PENTHOUSE suit!!! This is a superb way to start our holidays.

Day 2.

No sleep in from the girls - still a 5.15am wake up....not much sleep by us either - hit by a massive thunderstorm and it seriously sounds like our building is going to be smashed to pieces by wind & rain....or slide of the mountain side it is built in to!!

MJ is having some meltdowns - which is testing our patience - but hopefully this is just the lack of sleep and heat and not the start of a nightmare 3 year old!!!

Thankfully the lack of sleep has caught up with us all and we get a lunchtime nap. Seriously hot up here - so an arvo swim & catch up with some friends has ended our first full day on holidays on a nice note.

Christmas day & lead up:

Sharing a house with 5 other adults with 2 being your parents is not fun - but the girls are having a blast and that is the main thing!

So much rain in cairns means we are stuck indoors. Going slightly stir crazy and really appreciate how playdough, balloons and a kiddie laptop from grandma can keep the girls amuzed for days on end now.

Christmas morning and the girls walk straight past the pressies hidden under a sheet and don't pester us to open them - but when the ripping begins - watch out! MJ is most happy to open everything and discard the contents in order to move onto the next item whilst chloe takes her time and enjoys each item.....to say they are spoilt today is an understatement! I am certainly glad we bought the 4wd up and left plenty of space as we are seriously taking home a toyworld store worth of stuff!

All in all - it was a lovely day and marks nearly a week of holidays gone with another week to go.....at this rate with all the rain though - we might never be allowed to come home with reports of the Bruce Highway being closed to all traffic at the moment.....so if you know anyone with a boat, private jet or chopper willing to rescue us - pass on my details!!!!!

A very merry christmas to you all and I hope you and your families had a fabulous day. Keep safe.

Only 2 more sleeps until we are home. The pack up starts and our bon voyage from Cairns will be tomorrow.

The girls keep asking their aunt & uncle if they will miss them. Very sweet. MJ even says "i will miss you" to them without prompting. I think the girls have very much enjoyed their time with their aunt & uncle but are equally enjoying the idea of going home!

All in all - travelling has been pretty good with the girls. It is always hard when you aren't home with creature comforts and familiar surroundings but it has helped staying in a house and not a hotel/motel. I would certainly say the best thing we did/have which makes life easy with twins is the twin dvd headsets in the car! peace and quiet for as long as you can stand listening to movies/dvd's!!! even if the trip is only 15mins to the local shops!!

Yay - we are home!

Spent new years eve in our own beds and it was devine!

remind me if we ever suggest a driving holiday more than about 10hrs that we should NEVER EVER EVER do it!!!! Was lovely - but too much driving.

Hope you all had a safe and happy christmas and new years eve/day. May 2011 bring you all the lovely things you deserve.

Sonya, Chad, Makayla & Chloe
